Steven Smith is the Chef Patron of the multi-award winning Freemasons at Wiswell.
Industry recognition has been plentiful, starting with Steven’s Best Newcomer Award in The Publican
Awards in 2011. From there, The Freemasons has enjoyed a top 10 ranking in the Top 50 Gastropubs
(moving up to fourth place this year), been included in The Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants, as the only
pub to make the list, and for the last three successive years, has been named the Waitrose Good Food
Guide No.1 Pub, as the only pub to receive a coveted seven out of ten.
As well as winning his third AA rosette, maintaining Freemasons Michelin status and personally winning the
Acorn Award that recognises excellence in the industry under 30, Steven Smith has a team that rises to the
occasion as well, with Aga Tyczka winning The Front of House Award at last year’s Top 50 Gastropubs.
The Freemasons latest accolades include winning the Best Tourism Pub in 2015’s Visit England Awards, and
winning Best Food Pub at 2016’s Great British Pub Awards. In addition, The Freemasons came in the top 25
for Square Meal’s Top 100 Restaurants and was included in MSN’s Best Pubs in the UK.
